2018 NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships Take Place Friday
EDISON, NJ - The NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships take place Friday November 9, with nine of the 11 MAAC institutions participating in either the Mid-Atlantic Regional in State College, PA or the Northeast Regional in Buffalo, NY.
Heading to Buffalo for the Northeast Regional are Canisius College, Fairfield University, Iona College, Manhattan College, Marist College, Quinnipiac University, and Siena College. Monmouth University and Rider University will head to State College, PA for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship.
At the 2018 MAAC Cross Country Championships, Iona took home both the men’s and women’s titles. The Men’s title marked the program’s 28
th consecutive MAAC Championship, and the Women picked up their third-straight title.
In 2017, Iona’s Liam Dee and Gilbert Kirui both crossed the finish line with Top-10 times in seventh and ninth, respectfully. Dee moved up one spot over the final 2.8K of the race, finishing in 32:08.9, just ahead of the 32:11.9 from Kirui. Kirui had moved up to fourth at the 7.2K mark before finishing in ninth.
On the women’s side, the 2018 MAAC Most Outstanding Female Runner Egle Morenaite will be competing in her second NCAA Cross Country regional. Last year she led the Gaels with a seventh-place showing behind a 21:55.8. Morenaite opened the first mile with a 5:45.1 time to sit in 16
th. She finished the final half of the race in 11:11.7 to claim the All-Region nod in seventh.
The Mid-Atlantic Regional starts at noon with the women’s 6K and the men’s 10k run at 1:00 p.m. The Northeast Regional gets underway at 11:00 a.m. with the women’s 6K and the men’s 10K at noon.
