EDISON, NJ - A trio of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s soccer players collected Google Cloud Academic All-District honors. The Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men’s Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
 
Marist College’s Michael Lorello, Rider University’s Elliott Otmani, and Quinnipiac’s Eamon Whelan garnered recognition.
 
Marist’s Lorello and Quinnipiac’s Whelan were named First Team All-District in District I and Rider’s Otmani was named First Team All-District in District II. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if necessary) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
 
Lorello logged 1400 minutes on defense for the Red Foxes in 2018. The junior started 15 times. The Melville, NY native owns a 3.96 GPA while majoring in Business Administration. Lorello has made the MAAC All-Academic Team twice.
 
Whelan, who is a Health Science Studies major with a 3.8 GPA, was the unanimous Offensive Player of the Year in the MAAC after leading the league in points (27), points per game (1.69), goals (12), and goals per game (0.75). Whelan, a junior was named to the All-MAAC First Team this season.
 
Otmani is pursuing his masters in Athletic Leadership and graduated with a 3.62 GPA as a Human Resource Management major during his undergraduate studies. The native of France was an All-MAAC Second Team selection in 2018, which was his third All-MAAC honor. This season, Otmani leads the Broncs in assists (9) and points (21) and is second in goals (6).
 
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games, completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
