Iona's Solis and Manhattan's Awonusi, Boyce, and Padedze Take Home MAAC Indoor Track and Field Weekly Honors

Men’s Track Performer of the Week
Gerom Solis, Iona
Jr., Tela, Honduras/South Bronx Prep
Junior Gerom Solis highlighted the Maroon & Gold's efforts with a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter run. He crossed the finish line in a career-best 6.87 seconds in the sprint. In the 200-meter, Solis clocked his second gold in a time of 22.39. His time ties his career-best which was set at the 2018 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships when he finished fifth in the finals heat.
 
Men’s Field Performer of the Week
Anu Awonusi, Manhattan
So., Dublin, Ireland/Kilkenny College
Awonusi took first place in the men's shot put at the Yale Season Opener on December 8, hitting a MAAC best 17.78-meter throw and also setting a career-high in the event. Though he was already qualified for IC4As based on his earlier performance in the Jaspers' first meet, this throw was also an IC4A qualifying distance.
 
Women’s Track Performer of the Week
Amahri Boyce, Manhattan
Fr., Newark, NJ/North Star Academy

Boyce won the women's 200-meter race at the Yale Season Opener on December 8 with a MAAC-best time of 25.39, good for her first collegiate victory. Boyce also placed second in the women's 60-meter dash with a personal best time of 7.8 (second in the MAAC).
 
Women’s Field Performer of the Week
Lasma Padedze, Manhattan
So., Orge, Latvia/Ogre Secondary School No. 1
Padedze won the women's shot put at the 2018 Yale Season Opener with a personal best 14.81 meters, the best throw in the MAAC so far this season and an ECAC qualifying distance.
