Five MAAC Women’s Soccer Players Named to United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-East Teams

EDISON, NJ – The United Soccer Coaches announced its 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Scholar All-Region Teams on Wednesday, December 12.
 
A total of five MAAC Women’s Soccer student-athletes made an All-East Region Team. To be eligible for selection, the student-athlete must be nominated by his or her head coach and meet the following criteria:
  • Have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career
  • Start more than 50 percent of all games and be an elite player as supported by playing     honors (i.e., all-conference) or contributions to the success of his/her team.
  • Plays for a current United Soccer Coaches College Services member institution
Jessica Johnson, a junior defender from Monmouth University, was named to the All-East First Team. Johnson sported a 3.89 GPA, majoring in Social Work. The Howell, New Jersey native, had one of the top GPA’s for players on all teams and was tied for the highest GPA for First-Team defenders. Johnson was this year’s MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, aiding the Hawks in their MAAC Championship run.
 
Amanda Knaub, a junior goalkeeper from Monmouth, was named to the All-East Third Team. Knaub had an outstanding 3.97 GPA, the second highest of all All-East Scholar Teams. The junior is a native Enola, Pennsylvania and is a Criminal Justice major. Knaub was named to the All-MAAC Second Team, finishing the season with a .444 goals-against-average, ranking fourth in the NCAA.
 
Anna Lazur, a junior defender from Monmouth, was the lone MAAC representative on the All-East Region Second Team. Lazur also had one of the top GPA’s for all players, earning a 3.84 throughout her collegiate career. Lazur is an East Hanover, New Jersey native and is currently a Health Studies Major. She was a key component in the Monmouth defensive unit, starting 21 games for the Hawks this past season.
 
Taylor Dorado, a junior goalkeeper from Siena College, was the All-East First Team goalkeeper. Dorado accumulated a 3.30 GPA while majoring in Psychology. The Guilderland, New York native, was this year’s MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year, breaking the program’s single-season record for shutouts (9).
 
Amanda Holtzman, a senior defender from Siena, was also named to the All-East Third Team. Holzman sported a 3.31 GPA while majoring in Psychology. The Avon, Connecticut native was the only MAAC senior to make an All-East Scholar Team. Holtzman appeared in every game for the Saints this season and was named to the All-MAAC Second Team. She was a significant factor in the run made by the Saints to the MAAC Championship game.
