Siena Women’s Lacrosse Releases 2019 Schedule
LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Women's Lacrosse team announced their 2019 spring schedule on Wednesday afternoon, as head coach
Abigail Rehfuss has 17 regular season games on the slate for the Saints this year. After going 5-12 overall a year ago with a 1-7 mark in the MAAC, the Green and Gold look to make a stride forward in the coming season.
The Saints feature seven home games at Siena Field, while they will hit the road for 10 games which also features Siena on the road in four of their first five contests. Their opening game comes away from home at Columbia on Feb. 16, followed by the Saints home opener the following game on Feb. 20 when they play host to Army. The Saints just lost out to the squad from West Point in 2018 in a close 17-16 battle, while the Green and Gold have never faced Columbia.
The marquee matchups for the Saints come on Mar. 16, when they head across town to UAlbany to take on the Great Danes, Mar. 27 when they head to Canisius, and lastly on Apr. 13 when the Saints play host to Fairfield. The Saints and Great Danes square off for the first time since 2012, while they face Canisius on the road. The Griffins have won six of the last seven conference finals, while Fairfield was last season's runner up, and won the other MAAC Championship defeating Canisius. The Saints matchup with the Stags will also be the team's senior day at Siena Field.
Siena opens MAAC play against Iona at home on Mar. 23 at 1 p.m. The Saints will also face Manhattan on Mar. 30, Niagara on Apr. 3, Apr. 6 at Monmouth, Apr. 10 at Quinnipiac, and close out the season on Apr. 17 at Marist as the rest of the MAAC slate.
The other non-conference games will be at Villanova on Feb. 23, at Colgate on Feb. 27, at Holy Cross on Mar. 2, home against Vermont on Mar. 6 and Hartford on Mar. 13, and on the road at St. Bonaventure on Mar. 19. Siena's only previous matchup with Villanova came in 2002, while the Saints have never faced Hartford in their 21 year program history.
The MAAC Tournament First Round is being held on Sat, Apr. 27, while the semifinal and final will be held on May 2 and 4. The tournament will be hosted by the highest seeds during the regular season.
