Canisius senior Sofia Lopez Acosta was named to the 2018 Division I Women's Volleyball All-ECAC Team, the Eastern College Athletic Conference announced Thursday.

The Golden Griffins' libero adds the honor to a growing list of accolades for her senior season. The Mexicali, Mexico native won the MAAC Libero of the Year award and was an All-MAAC Second Team selection last month. She also earned MAAC All-Championship Team honors for her postseason play.

Earning three MAAC Libero of the Week honors during the 2018 campaign, Lopez Acosta led the conference with 5.55 digs per set, ranking 12th nationally. The libero was also among the MAAC's best with 0.35 service aces per set, ranking fifth among league leaders. In total, Lopez Acosta registered 14 contests with 20-plus digs. She also contributed offensively, tallying 21 kills and 89 assists.

Lopez Acosta continued to be the focal point of the Blue and Gold's defense in the team's first trip to the MAAC Championship since 2014. The libero set a career-high with 32 digs in the semifinal win over Rider, helping the Griffs advance to their first-ever MAAC Championship match. In the final match against Iona, Lopez Acosta then added another 30 digs, finishing the tournament with 62 digs, 11 assists and a service ace.

Her 577 total digs on the season is sixth-best in program history, while her 1,002 career digs made Lopez Acosta just the 11th Golden Griffin to reach the 1,000-dig milestone. Those 1,002 digs, in addition to 64 career aces, are the most for any player that only played two seasons with the Griffs.

Canisius finished a historic 2018 season with a 17-12 record, going 14-4 in MAAC play to match the program record for conference wins. The Golden Griffins' run to the MAAC Championship match also saw five other Canisius players earn All-MAAC honors in addition to Lopez Acosta, along with the team setting the program's single-season record with a .252 hitting percentage.
