Niagara’s Prochet and Fairfield’s Whipple Named Pepsi Zero MAAC Men’s Basketball Players of the Week

Marvin Prochet, Niagara

Marvin Prochet notched his MAAC-leading fifth double-double of the season with a game-high 24 points and a team-high 10 rebounds to help Niagara defeat Cornell on Sunday for the Purple Eagles’ third straight win. Prochet made five straight three-pointers in the first half on his way to tying a career-high in three-pointers with five. Prochet became the 47th member of Niagara’s 1,000-Point Club during the game. Prochet scored his 1,000th point on the first of two free throws with two minutes left in the game. He made the second free throws to bring Niagara within one point, 70-69.
Rookie of the Week
Calvin Whipple, Fairfield
Fr., Leominster, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon
Calvin Whipple scored a team-high 21 points off seven three-point field goals as the Stags fell to Boston College, 79-69, on the road. Whipple netted four three pointers in the first half, two of which gave Fairfield a lead at the time. The first-year Stag followed up with three three-point field goals in the final six minutes of the game, the last of which cut the lead to four points with under two minutes remaining. He made 7-of-14 shots from behind the arc and added one rebound and one assist to his totals.
