Young and Ramjohn Named Pepsi Zero MAAC Student-Athletes of the Week
Colleen Young
Women’s Swimming and Diving
Fairfield University
Competing at the U.S. Paralympics Swimming Para National Championships this past weekend, Colleen Young broke her own S13 para world record in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:50.75. Earlier this year, Young swam for Team USA at the Pan Pacific Para Swimming Championships in Australia, taking gold in the 100m backstroke, silver in the 200m IM, and bronze in both the 100m backstroke and 50m freestyle.
Swimming with the Stags this season, Young holds the MAAC’s top times in the 200y breaststroke (2:19.61) and 200y IM (2:07.43) and ranks second in the 100y breaststroke (1:05.24). She was a three-time MAAC Champion (100y breaststroke, 200y breaststroke, 400y medley relay) in 2018 as Fairfield won its first-ever conference championship.
Jalen Ramjohn
Men’s Swimming and Diving
Iona College
Jalen Ramjohn has had a stellar rookie season for the Iona College men’s swimming & diving program. Thus far, the freshman has won 200-meter Individual Medley, 100-butterfly, 100-breastroke and 100-IM races. Against Monmouth in a MAAC dual meet, Ramjohn won three races against the Hawks. The most resounding result the Bronx, NY native has accomplished came in the H2ounds Invitational where he posted a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly at 49.80. He lowered the mark that was previously set by Keegan Boisson-Yates in 2016.
