Eleven from MAAC Men’s Soccer Earn United Soccer Coaches All-Region Honors

KANSAS CITY, MO – Eleven MAAC Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes were named to All-East Region Teams as announced by the United Soccer Coaches Wednesday. The 11 student-athletes represented five different schools.
 
Quinnipiac University’s Eamon Whalen was named All-East Region First Team at forward. Whalen was the unanimous Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league in points (27), points per game (1.69), goals (12), and goals per game (0.75) during the regular season. The Connecticut native helped the Bobcats to a second-place finish in the regular season and advanced to the championship game against Rider University.
 
Seven MAAC student-athletes were selected to the All-East Region Second Team. Gordon Botterill in goal, Jonas Vergin on defense, and Diego Casielles in the midfield represented Fairfield University. Iona College (Killian Colombie), Marist College (Allen Gavilanes), Quinnipiac (Jeppe Haehre), and Rider (Sylvian Coco) each had one representative.
 
The Fairfield trio helped the Stags win the MAAC Regular Season Title after going 8-0-2 in league play. Botterill was the MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year and an All-MAAC First Team selection. Vergin was named Defensive Player of the Year and was also an All-MAAC First Team selection. Casielles earned All-MAAC First Team honors as well.
 
Colombie at forward, Gavilanes at forward, and Haehre on defense were named All-MAAC First Team this season. All three helped their respective teams to berths in the MAAC Championship.
 
Samad Bounthong of Marist, Rashawn Dally from Quinnipiac, and Elliott Otmani of Rider received All-East Region Third Team honors. Bounthong and Dally made the All-MAAC First Team this season in the midfield and at forward respectively. Otmani was an All-MAAC Second Team member at forward and was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2018 MAAC Championship as the fifth-seeded Broncs took home the title after winning three straight road games; including the final at Quinnipiac, 1-0.
