POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Marist men's lacrosse announces its 2019 schedule. The team will play a challenging non-conference schedule to prepare them for Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The schedule consists of five home games and nine away contests.
The Red Foxes start their season at Air Force on Saturday February 16. The two teams have played each other closely over the last couple of seasons, with three of the last four contests being decided by one point. Marist will have a quick turnaround and play local Hudson Valley rival Army on Tuesday, February 19. This is only the third meeting with Army. The last time Marist played the Black Knights was back in 2007 with Marist dropping the game 7-6. The Red Foxes close out the month of February with a contest at Hartford on Tuesday February 26.
Marist will open the month of March with two away games. They will make the short trip to Stony Brook on Saturday, March 2 and travel to Chapel Hill to play lacrosse powerhouse UNC on March 8. UNC most recently won an NCAA title in 2016. This is the second meeting between the two teams with Marist falling to the Tar Heels 12-3 in 2008.
The Red Foxes will open up home and conference play against Monmouth on Saturday, March 16. The following Saturday, Marist will take the quick trip down to Manhattan. Last season the Red Foxes beat the Jaspers 12-4. Goalkeeper Brian Corrigan recorded a .850 save percentage in route to his 500
th career save during the game.
Marist will have a three game home stand starting with a game against Detriot Mercy on Saturday, March 30. Three days later, Marist will host Bucknell for a weekday match up. Bucknell was ranked 16
th in the nation to close out the 2018 season. The Red Foxes will close out the home stand with a night contest against MAAC rival Siena on Saturday, April 6. The last time Marist lost to Siena was in 2014.
A week later Marist will travel to Quinnipiac to face the regular season MAAC Champions. On Tuesday, April 16, Marist will host St. Bonaventure for its last regular season home game. This upcoming season will be the first official year for the Bonnies as a Division I lacrosse team. The Bonnies joined the MAAC as an associate member for the 2019 season. This will also serve as Marist's senior day.
Marist will close out the regular season with two tough road games. For the first time in program history, Marist will face the University of Virginia on Saturday, April 27. Virginia made the tournament last season and finished the season ranked 10
th. The Red Foxes wrap up the regular season by traveling to the defending MAAC champions Canisius on Saturday, April 27.
The MAAC tournament will take place from May 2-4 with the location still to be determined. Marist missed out on the tournament this past season but made the finals the previous four seasons and won the championship back in 2015.
