NEW YORK, NY – The 2018 MAAC Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships is set to begin today, Saturday, February 17, at the
New Balance Armory Track and Field Center in New York, NY. The MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships returns to the Armory for the 15
th consecutive year and will stream live on
MAAC.TV. The first event of the Championships is the men’s mile trials, slated for 4:30 p.m.
Around the League:
- Monmouth University claimed its fourth-straight MAAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship in 2016-17. The Hawks have taken home the Women’s Indoor Championship every year since they joined the league in 2013-14. Monmouth was selected No. 1 overall in both the Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
- Rider University earned its first-ever MAAC Men’s Track & Field Championship last season. The Broncs finished ahead of Monmouth, who had previously won three consecutive Indoor Track & Field Championships. Rider placed No. 2 in the MAAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches’ Poll, and received two first-place votes.
- Canisius College junior Siobhan Quinn is seeded fifth overall in the women’s 3k event. The junior registered a time of 9:44.21, in the women’s 3k at the YSU Mid Major Invite on Feb. 2; the fifth-best time in the MAAC this season. Senior Jeff Antolos is seeded seventh in the men’s 5k. Antolos recorded a time of 14:51.89 in the men’s 5k at the YSU Mid Major Invite. His mark was the eighth-fastest in the 5k by a MAAC student-athlete in 2017-18.
- Iona College graduate student Cassandra Gill enters the women’s 5k as the third seed. Gill ran the 11th-fastest 5k in the league this season, with a mark of 9:57.84 at the Mets Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 1. Senior Liam Dee earned the top overall seed in the men’s mile. The senior holds the top one-mile time in the league and nearly has a three second lead over the next best mile time.
- Manhattan College junior Lisa Fajardo is seeded second in the women’s 3k, while senior John Dove is the fourth seed in the men’s mile. Fajardo ranks second in the women’s 3k with a time of 9:39.00, which she tallied at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 26. Dove has the-fourth quickest mile time in the MAAC this year. Dove notched a 4:12.30 at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic on Jan. 26.
- Marist College senior Danisha Craig is seeded sixth in the women’s 400m, and senior Dietrich Mosel is seeded third in the men’s 3k. Craig posted a mark of 58.99 in the 400m event at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. Craig’s time is the eighth-best in the MAAC this season for the women’s 400m. Mosel has the seventh-best time in the league in the men’s 3k. The senior ran an 8:23.25 at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9.
- Monmouth’s head coach Joe Compagni was named the 2017 MAAC Women’s Indoor Track Coach of the Year. Hawks’ junior Ashley McKinnon and senior Bryan Sosoo are both seeded first in the women’s triple jump and men’s 60m dash, respectively.
- Quinnipiac University has a pair of performers that are each seeded in the top spot in their respective events. Senior Jessica Lee earned the top seed in the women’s 60m hurdles, and junior Carly Timpson did so in the women’s high jump. Lee notched the best time in the MAAC this year in the 60m hurdles (8.25), while Timpson has the top mark in the high jump (5’ 8.5”)
- Rider head coach Bob Hamer took home the 2017 MAAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year honor. Junior Russell Malko is seeded second overall in the Men’s 400m, while Karoline Sandvig is the top seed in the women’s weight throw.
- Saint Peter’s University junior Daija King and junior Joe Egri are slated for action in the 2018 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
- Siena College junior Sarah Forman is seeded third in the women’s 3000m, while sophomore Evans Kibet is seeded third overall in the men’s 800m. Forman posted the third-best mark in the MAAC this year (9:42.78) in the 3000m event at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Feb. 9. Kibet ran a 1.50:87 at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational, just shy of the second overall time in the league.

Tickets can be purchased on-site at the Armory. Adult tickets will be sold for $15, student tickets will be sold for $10, and children under 3 feet 6 inches will be granted free admission.
