Fairfield Takes Home 2018 MAAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship

BUFFALO, NY – On Saturday night, Fairifeld University was crowned the 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Confernce (MAAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Champions. Fairfield snaps Marist College’s eight straight titles on the back of 2018 MAAC Women’s Swimming Rookie of the Meet and Most Outstanding Swimmer, Sara Ostensen. Fairfield Head Coach Anthony Bruno was names the 2018 MAAC Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year.
 
The Stags finished in first place in the 1650 Free, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, and the 400 Free Relay. Ostensen took home gold in the 1650 Free with a time of 16:55.48, silver in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:05.88, and was the anchor of the 400 Free Relay that took gold with a time of 3:28.61. Fairfield finished the four day Championship with two broken records, the 200 Medley Relay (1:43.05) and 800 Free Relay (7:29.06) as they totaled 718 points.
 
Behind the Stags, the Red Foxes (658) finished in second place, while Iona College (482) edged out Canisius College (481) for third. In fifth, Rider University (421), sixth Niagara University (284), and seventh Siena College (218). Rounding out the standings are Monmouth University (175), Manhattan College (142), and Saint Peter’s University (74)
 
The 2018 MAAC Most Outstanding Diver was Rider’s Breanne Hatter. Hatter took gold in the 3-Meter Dive Friday, with a score of 266.25, she then completed the 1-meter dive with a score of 238.65 to take silver. Ian O’Rourke, for the second straight year took home MAAC Diving Coach of the Year.
 
The 2018 MAAC Diving Rookie of the Meet was Esabelle Gervasio of Marist. On Wednesday, Gervasio took gold in the 1-Meter Dive with a score of 251.60, the Red Fox then finished seventh in the 3-Meter Dive (215.95) on Friday.
 
Fairfield and other MAAC institutions will compete at the ECAC Championships February 23-25, in Piscataway, NJ.
