Monmouth Leads MAAC Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships After Day One
Day One Results
NEW YORK, NY – Monmouth University leads the 2018 MAAC Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships after day one. The Hawks tallied 91 points on the men’s side to lead all team’s, while the women’s team closed out the opening day with 62 points overall.
The Monmouth men won a total of three events, while the women claimed one. Timothy Wilson placed first in the men’s weight throw, with a mark of 20.37m. Benjamin Pierce claimed the top spot in the men’s long jump (7.05m). Monmouth’s men’s and women’s distance medley relay teams took home gold, with times of 10.05:36, and 12:01.62 respectively.
On the men’s side, the Hawks were followed by Manhattan College (55 points), Iona College (32 points), Rider University (30 points), and Canisius College (10 points) in the top five. The Jaspers notched a pair of individual first-place finishes. Brenton Foster earned gold in the men’s high jump (2.18m), and Eduard Winner had the best mark in the men’s pole vault (4.65m).
The Rider women’s team (47 points) sits in second-place, followed by Quinnipiac University (31 points), Marist College (15 points), and Manhattan College (14 points) to round out the top five. The Bobcats and Broncs each collected two individual victories apiece.
A total of three MAAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship meet records were broken on day one. Rider’s Karoline Sandvig recorded a throw of 18.34m in the women’s weight throw finals, to set a new meet record.
Quinnipiac’s Jessica Lee set a new mark in the women’s 60m hurdles with a time of 8.29 in the prelims. Lee broke her own record of 8.45, which she set at the 2017 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Manhattan’s Paige Chapman broke the women’s 60m dash record in the prelims with a time of 7.48. Chapman was the previous record holder, when she set the mark of 7.57, at last year’s championships.
Day two of the 2018 MAAC Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships begins on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 4 p.m., with the men’s mile, and men’s shot put finals.

The 2018 MAAC Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships takes place Feb. 17-18, at the
New Balance Armory Track and Field Center in New York, NY. The MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships returns to the Armory for the 15
th consecutive year and will stream live on
MAAC.TV.

Tickets can be purchased on-site at the Armory. Adult tickets will be sold for $15, student tickets will be sold for $10, and children under 3 feet 6 inches will be granted free admission.
