Monmouth Women Secure Fifth Consecutive MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championship

NEW YORK, NY – Monmouth University won its fifth-straight MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championship, as it totaled 232 points over the course of the two-day event. The Hawks have won all five MAAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship that they’ve competed in since joining the conference in 2013-14.
 
Monmouth compiled 232 points, the most by a women’s team since Manhattan College recorded 278.5 points in the 2008 Championship. The Hawks’ 232-point total are the most that they have tallied in the MAAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship. Monmouth registered seven first-place finishes over the two-day event.
 
Quinnipiac University (119 points) placed second, followed by Rider (117 points), Manhattan (90 points), and Marist College (40 points) in the top five.
 
Monmouth’s head coach Joe Compagni was tabbed the 2018 MAAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year for the fifth year in a row. Marist’s Hayley Collins earned the Track Rookie of the Meet honor, while Manhattan’s Lasma Padedze earned the Field Rookie of the Meet award. Quinnipiac’s Jessica Lee, who set a new meet record in the 60m hurdles (8.29) claimed the Track Most Outstanding Performer accolade. Rider’s Asia Young rounded out the major award winners, as she was named the Field Most Outstanding Performer.  
 
A total of four MAAC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship meet records were broken throughout the Championship. Quinnipiac’s Lee set a new mark in the women’s 60m hurdles with a time of 8.29 in the prelims. Lee broke her own record of 8.45, which she set at the 2017 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Manhattan’s Paige Chapman broke the women’s 60m dash record in the prelims with a time of 7.48. Chapman was the previous record holder, when she set the mark of 7.57, at last year’s championships.
 
Rider’s Karoline Sandvig recorded a throw of 18.34m in the women’s weight throw finals, to set a new meet record. Monmouth’s Casey Sturts notched a new meet record in the pole vault with a mark of 3.87m on day two of the Championship.

The 2018 MAAC Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships took place Feb. 17-18, at the New Balance Armory Track and Field Center in New York, NY. The MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships returned to the Armory for the 15th consecutive year and was streamed live on MAAC.TV.
