Jacksonville Selected as MAAC Rowing Preseason Favorite
EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announced today that Jacksonville University has been tabbed MAAC Rowing preseason favorites, based on a vote by the leagues 10 head coaches. The Dolphins collected their fourth-straight MAAC Women’s Rowing Championship in 2017.
At the 2017 MAAC Championship, Jacksonville took home wins in the Varsity Four (8:21.909), Second Varsity Eight (7:28.418), and Varsity Eight (7:21.190). The Dolphins also swept 2017 MAAC Women’s Rowing Major Awards with head coach Mike Lane taking home Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive year. Jacksonville received six first place votes and 93 total points in the Preseason Poll.
The Dolphins are followed by Marist College (88) who received three first place votes. The Red Foxes have won 10 MAAC Women’s Rowing Championships, with the last one coming in 2013. Canisius College (72) who received one first-place vote, rounds out the top three.
In fourth is Fairfield University (71), followed by Drake University (64) in fifth, and Robert Morris University (48) in sixth. Sacred Heart University (34) placed seventh, followed by Stetson University (30) in eighth, while Iona College and Manhattan College tied for ninth with 25 points.
