NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Graduate student
Jan Svandrlik of the Iona College men's basketball team has been honored as one of the five student-athletes named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 team. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, with first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in March.
Svandrlik, a graduate student from Czech Republic, is currently majoring in International Business with a 3.75 grade point average (GPA). In his two years with the Maroon & Gold, the forward has appeared in 59 games while shooting 44.9 percent from beyond the arc towards 48 made 3-point field goals. He was joined on the District 1 Team, one of eight All-District teams, by Stone Getting of Cornell, Tanner Liessner of New Hampshire, Austin Nehls of Central Connecticut and David Nichols of Albany.
The Academic All-District® teams includes student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division.
Svandrlik joins
Cassandra Gill of the women's cross country and track & field program as well as Gabrielle Di Domizio of the women's lacrosse team as Iona representatives on the All-District team within the past calendar year. He can also join
Steve Burtt, Jr. (2006) as the only two Academic All-Americans in program history as well as the 10th in department history.
The men's basketball team returns to action on Friday evening by hosting Manhattan at 9 pm on ESPNU for the home regular season finale. Prior to the game, Svandrlik along with fellow seniors
