MAAC Announces Tennis Weekly Award Winners
Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Julia Gabay, Marist
Fr., Safety Harbor, FL/Laurel Springs
Freshamn Julia Gabay went a perfect 4-0 for the Red Foxes playing from the second doubles and second singles position as Marist earned wins against Lafayette and Colgate. Against Lafayette Gabay won both her matches, teaming up with Sam Galu to defeat Lafayette's Grace Conrod and Meredith Block, 7-6 (4), and then in singles play defeated Sam Snyder in a three set match in an overall 6-1 Marist win. In her second two matches of the weekend, Gabay and Galu again teamed up to defeat Bucknell's Emilie Bush and Sofia Ayuso, 6-2. Gabay then won her singles match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, over paige leavy.
Men’s Tennis Player of the Week
Srdjan Jakovljevic, Monmouth
Jr., Novi Sad, Serbia
In Monmouth's 2-0 weekend, Srdjan Jakovljevic earned two singles wins and a doubles win. The Hawks defeated Navy on Saturday, as Jakovljevic picked up the win at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-4. On Sunday, Monmouth handled Villanova as Jakovljevic won at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-1, and at No. 2 doubles with teammate Sergio Martinez, 6-0.
