Fairfield's Nelson & Canisius' Molson Take Home MAAC Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

Tyler Nelson notches his second MAAC Player of the Week honor this season. The guard averaged 29.0 points per game in a (2-0) week for the Stags, highlighted by his 32-point effort in a 103-100 win over Iona. He followed up with 26 points, which included 16 in the second half, as Fairfield edged Monmouth on Sunday. Nelson scored Fairfield's first nine points of the second half that erased an eight-point Monmouth halftime lead. The senior shot 54.0 percent from the floor, 52.0 percent from three-point range, and 71.0 percent from the free-throw line. He also added 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in the two games.
Rookie of the Week
Takal Molson, Canisius
Fr., G, Buffalo, NY/TAAG Academy
Canisius freshman Takal Molson earns his third MAAC Rookie of the Week honor. Molson averaged 14.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game last week as the Golden Griffins earned two road wins at Marist and Saint Peter’s. In the win over Marist, he scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his second career double-double, and then he followed that performance with eight points and a career-high 11 boards in Canisius’ victory over Saint Peter’s. For the week, he shot 40.9 percent from the field, 44.4 percent from behind the arc and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line, while also recording two steals in the win over the Red Foxes.
