No. 9 Seed Quinnipiac Draws No. 8 Seed Miami in NCAA Tournament

EDISON, NJ – Quinnipiac University (27-5) was awarded the No. 9 seed in the Albany Region of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament and will face No. 8 seed University of Miami in the first round.
 
The first-round matchup will be on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Storrs, Connecticut on ESPN2. The winner gets No. 1 overall seed Connecticut in the second round.
 
The Bobcats won their second-straight MAAC Championship with a 67-58 win over Marist College on March 5 at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York. Quinnipiac went 18-0 in the regular season in MAAC play to claim its fourth-straight Regular Season Title and has won 22-straight games.
 
Head coach Tricia Fabbri was named The Rock Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year. Junior forward Jen Fay was named MVP of the MAAC Championship, named to the All-Championship Team and First Team All-MAAC. Classmate Aryn McClure was also named MAAC All-Championship Team and the forward was named First Team All-MAAC. Senior guard Carly Fabbri was named to the All-Championship Team as well as Third Team All-MAAC.
 
Miami (21-10) makes the NCAA Tournament out of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Hurricanes went 10-6 in the ACC before losing to Florida State in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament on March 2. Erykah Davenport leads the Hurricanes at 12.3 points per game.
 
These two teams squared off in last year’s tournament down in Coral Gables, Florida where Quinnipiac won 85-76 in the second round to advance to the Sweet 16.
