Monmouth Hawks Selected as Men's & Women's Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Favorites

EDISON, NJ Monmouth University men and women have been named preseason favorites to win the 2017 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, according to a vote by the league’s head coaches.
 
The Hawks men’s program received a total of seven first place votes and 63 points in the poll. Monmouth finished last year’s championships with a total of 225 points en route to claiming their fourth straight MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship crown. The Hawks return 2017 MAAC Men’s Most Outstanding Field Performer, senior Corey Murphy and 2017 MAAC Men’s Track Rookie of the Meet, Peter Guerriero.
 
Monmouth is followed by Rider University who received one first place vote and 56 points in the poll. Rider has taken home two MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the last coming in 2013. Rounding out the top-three is Manhattan College who received 49 points in the poll. The Jaspers have the most MAAC Men’s Outdoor Championships (14) and recorded 13 straight from 1998-2010.
 
In fourth sits Iona College (40) followed by Canisius College (22), Marist College (22), and Siena College (22) who all tied for fifth place. Saint Peter’s University (14) sits in eighth to round out the men’s poll.
 
For the women, Monmouth collected nine first place votes along with 99 points. Like the men, the Monmouth women have taken four straight MAAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Hawks recorded 267 points at last year’s Championship, outscoring the second place Broncs by 128.5 points.
 
Rider sits behind Monmouth in second with 84 points overall. The Broncs have taken home three MAAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field titles. In third is Quinnipiac University who received one first place vote and 83 total points. The Bobcats return 2017 MAAC Most Outstanding Women’s Field Performer, Carly Timpson.
 
Manhattan (73) sits in fourth, while Marist (56) comes in fifth place, Iona (55) in sixth, and Siena (37) in seventh place. Rounding out the poll in the last three spots are Canisius (26), Niagara University (19), and Saint Peter’s (18).
This year’s MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships are hosted by Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey for the third consecutive year. The Championships take place May 5th and May 6th, for more information visit maacsports.com/outdoortrack.
