LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University Men's Basketball Head Coach
Kevin Baggett has been named All-District 1 Coach by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Baggett shares the distinction with Vermont's John Becker.
"It's a great honor to be recognized by my peers and receive this award," said Baggett. "It's a testament to all that our team achieved this year and the hard work of our student-athletes and assistant coaches. We're excited about the year we just had and what we can achieve in the future."
Baggett already earned his second The Rock MAAC Coach of the Year Award in six seasons following the Broncs' MAAC Co-Regular Season Championship and National Invitation Tournament berth. He led Rider to one of its most successful seasons in program history. Rider's 22 wins were second-most in program history behind 23-win seasons in 2007-08 and 2010-11, both 23-11 campaigns. Baggett coached four Broncs to All-MAAC honors this season and oversaw a 10-game winning streak, just the Broncs' fifth in 90 years of men's basketball.
Rider won 15 games in MAAC play for just the second time in 21 years in the league and the first time in an 18-game league slate (15-5 in 2014-15). Rider also went 12-1 at Alumni Gymnasium, including a 9-0 mark in MAAC play, and earned signature road wins at Penn State and George Washington.
In Baggett's six seasons at the helm, his 107 overall wins and 69 wins in league play are both second-most among MAAC coaches. He's also had tremendous success in overtime contests in his six seasons, with his teams winning nine of 10 games that went to an extra session, including the last eight.
