Player of the Week
Richie Barrella, Manhattan
Jr., INF, Larchmont, NY/Canterbury Prep
Richie Barrella hit .562 (9-16) with four runs, a triple, nine RBI, two stolen bases and a walk. The junior reached base safely at least twice in all four games this past week. He went 3-6 with two RBI, a stolen base and a run in a win at Stony Brook. Barrella opened the series sweep against Saint Peter’s by going 3-4 with a triple, run, stolen base and four RBI. He followed that up with a RBI single that provided what would prove to be the game-winning run in 2-0 game-two victory. In the last game of the weekend he went 1-3 with a walk, two runs, and two RBI.
Pitcher of the Week
John Signore, Fairfield
Jr., P, Wallingford, CT/Xavier
John Signore tossed 8.0 shutout innings and surrendered two hits en route to Fairfield’s 1-0 win over Canisius. The junior struck out a career-high 14 batters and walked only one in the 119-pitch effort. Signore allowed just a single in the first and seventh innings and a walk in the eighth. In his only trouble of the game with a runner at third and one out in the seventh, Signore would strike out the next two hitters swinging.
Rookie of the Week
Will Trochiano, Manhattan
Fr., INF, Morganville, NJ/Marlboro
Will Trochiano hit .444 (8-18) this past week as the Jaspers went 4-0. He went 2-4 with a walk, HBP, stolen base, two runs and a RBI in a win at Stony Brook. The freshman then went 2-7 in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Saint Peter’s with three runs, a RBI, walk, stolen base and two HBP. He closed out the week with a career-high four hits, three runs and a double in helping clinch a series sweep. Trochiano has now reached base safely in all 21 games to start his career, including hitting safely 19 times.
