Wagner's Watson, Donkin & Iona's Vilander Take Home MAAC Water Polo Weekly Awards
Offensive Player of the Week
Kimberly Watson, Wagner
Sr., Utility, Pointe-Claire, Quebec/John Rennie
Kimberly Watson tallied 27 points (19 goals, eight assists), and won 13 sprints over the course of a 4-0 week for Wagner. The senior tallied four or more goals in three out of four games last week, which included an eight goal performance against Villanova on Sunday. Watson’s eight goals on Sunday marked her season-high for goals in a game.
Defensive Player of the Week
Britten Vilander, Iona
Sr., Goalkeeper, Santa Barbara, CA/Dos Pueblos
In four games for Iona this weekend, Britten Vilander went 3-1 in net, posting a .538 save percentage and 7.5 goals-against average. In Iona’s 15-5 win over Siena, Vilander allowed five goals and stopped eight shots. Later in Iona’s win over St. Francis Brooklyn, the senior made 11 saves and collected five steals in a 14-6 victory. On Sunday morning, Vilander conceded 15 goals and stopped nine shots. In the weekend finale, the veteran allowed a career-low two goals against La Salle and stopped seven shots. For the week she totaled 20 steals.
Rookie of the Week
Kristy Donkin, Wagner
Fr., Utility, Sydney, Australia/Mackellar Girls Campus
Kristy Donkin registered 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists), and nine steals in a 4-0 week for the Seahawks. The utility started her week by dishing out a career-high five assists and tallying a goal against St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday. The freshman found the back of the net three times in a win over Marist in Wagner’s second game of the day on Saturday. Donkin tallied a goal and five assists against Iona, and two goals and four assists against Villanova on Sunday.
