MAAC Softball Play Opens Saturday
EDISON, NJ - The 2018 softball season enters MAAC play this weekend with eight of the league's 11 teams in action on Saturday, March 31.

League Notes
- Manhattan College enjoyed the most success prior to league play starting-sitting at 14-9-and are winners of five in a row.
- The Jaspers have allowed only four runs in the five games and have outscored opponents 16-4.
- Marist College and Quinnipiac University have also cracked double-digit wins. The Red Foxes and Bobcats each have 10 in the win column.
- Manhattan leads the MAAC in ERA (2.85), which is close to a full run better than the rest of the league.
- Manhattan, Fairfield, and Monmouth University are the top three teams in the MAAC in RPI and all are inside the top 200.
- Manhattan and Rider University sit in the top 25 of Division I in extra-base hits. The Jaspers are 12th in doubles per game (0.52) and the Broncs are 24th in triples per game (0.30).
- Rider leads the circuit in batting average at .279.
- Madysen Cossack-the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year-leads Division I in doubles per game at (0.56). Cossack leads the MAAC in slugging percentage (.788).
- Brianna Matazinsky of Manhattan is in the pole position of MAAC in batting average (.466). Four other players are over .400.
- Casey Herzog of Quinnipiac leads the league in innings pitched (98.2), ERA (1.42), strike outs (81), complete games (10).
Last Year in MAAC Play
- Fairfield University topped Monmouth University the championship game, 2-0, behind Destinee Pallotto's no-hitter. It was the Stags' second title in three years and third overall.
- The Stags were the first sixth seed to win a MAAC Softball Championship.
- Monmouth made its third straight appearance in the title game.
