Wagner Clinches Third Consecutive MAAC Water Polo Regular Season Championship

EDISON, NJ – Wagner College (21-6, 13-0 MAAC) clinched its third-straight MAAC Water Polo Regular Season Championship with a 12-9 win over Marist College (19-16, 12-2 MAAC) on Sunday. The Seahawks claim their fifth MAAC Water Polo Regular Season Championship in the last six years, and ninth overall.
 
Wagner led today’s contest wire-to-wire en route to their second victory of the season against the Red Foxes. The Seahawks scored three goals in the first four minutes of play and led by as many as five goals in the game. Senior utility Kimberly Watson paced Wagner with a hat trick.
 
Seahawks’ freshman utility Kristy Donkin (one goal, two assists), junior attack Erica Hardy (two goals, one assist), and freshman utility Daisy Nankervis (two goals, one assist) tallied three points apiece in the win. Freshman goalkeeper Katherine Campbell recorded four saves and five steals.
 
Wagner earns the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming MAAC Water Polo Championship, which takes place April 28-29, in McCann Natatorium on the campus of Marist College. Marist will serve as the championship host for the 16th year in a row. The Red Foxes have secured the No. 2 seed in the championship with a 12-2 mark in MAAC play.

The Seahawks wrap up their regular season today at 3 p.m. against St. Francis Brooklyn. 
 
Semifinal action begins Saturday, April 28 at noon, with No.1 Wagner taking on the No. 4 seed. The second semifinal game features No. 2 Marist and the No. 3 seed at 2 p.m. The consolation game and championship game will be played the following day on Sunday, April 29, at noon and 2 p.m. respectively.
