Detroit Mercy's Vangalen Selected To The USILA Team Of The Week
DETROIT (4/18/2018) -- Junior Matthew Vangalen picked up another accolade following his record-breaking performance as the attackman was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Team of the Week on Tuesday.
Each week during the season, the USILA selects 10 members who demonstrated excellence on the field from Division I, II and III to comprise the national team award.
Vangalen – who was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week - just set a school record with 11 points and tied a school mark with seven goals and four assists in Detroit Mercy's 18-8 road victory at Manhattan. The win helped the Titans clinch a spot in the MAAC Championships and kept their chances of winning a regular season title alive.
He now leads the team with 33 points, 19 goals and 14 assists in a balanced Titan offensive attack that has seen 16 players score a goal on the year with seven in double figures.
Joining Vangalen on the list are student-athletes from Duke, Maryland, Virginia, Princeton, Loyola (MD), Drexel, Saint Joseph's, Stony Brook and Princeton.
