2018 MAAC Men’s & Women’s Golf Championships set to Tee Off on Friday

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – The 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships are set to begin Friday, April 20. This year marks the fourth consecutive year that the MAAC Golf Championships have been held at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course.
The men will tee off from the back nine and the women will tee off from the front nine, starting at 7:30 a.m. The men’s and women’s championship round will be broadcasted live on Sunday, April 22, on ESPN3, beginning at 10 a.m. Both championships are three rounds (54 holes).
Seeded first on the men’s side is Monmouth University. The Hawks are led by freshman Glen-Michael Mihavetz, the MAAC Golfer of the Week on April 18. Rider University and Iona College enter the Championship seeded second and third respectively. Seeded fourth is Siena College, followed by Manhattan College seeded fifth, and Fairfield University seeded sixth. Canisius College is seeded seventh, followed by Saint Peter’s in eighth, and Niagara University in ninth.
Saint Peter’s looks to defend its 2017 MAAC Golf title and earn its fourth championship in the last five years. The Peacocks are led by junior Mike Winter, last year’s McLeod Trophy winner. The junior shot a +4 (220) to take home the 2017 MAAC Most Outstanding Performer. Saint Peter’s enters the 2018 Championship as the eighth seed.
The two-time defending MAAC Women’s Golf Champions, Quinnipiac University looks to make it three in a row. The Bobcats are buoyed by sophomore, Alexandra Sazhin. Sazhin took home the 2017 MAAC Rookie of the Year, Most Outstanding Performer, and McLeod Trophy. For the second-straight season the Bobcats enter the championship seeded first. The sophomore recorded a three-day total of +15 (231).
Following the Bobcats in the top-three are the University at Albany and University of Dayton. Monmouth comes in seeded fourth, while the University of Hartford is seeded fifth. Sixth is Siena, followed by Fairfield in seventh. Niagara and La Salle University round out the bottom two heading into day one.
