LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL – After the second round of the 2018 MAAC Men’s & Women’s Golf Championships, the Iona College men and University at Albany women lead their respective fields. Action teed off this morning at 7:30 a.m. from Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL.

Iona shot a +6 (294) on the day to jump ahead of Siena College for first place. The Gaels recorded 15 birdies in the second round to push their two-round total to 27, which is tied with Siena for most at the championship. Iona’s Justin Burkhamer recorded five birdies to take control of the individual leaderboard. Burkhamer is joined by three teammates in the top-10, Kritsarin Oukosavanna (+6), Paolo Matti (+5), and Oisin Devereux (-2). Iona has collected a two-day mark of +13 (589).

In second place are the Saints at +27 (603). The Saints are followed by Manhattan College who jumped up two spots after round two and currently sit at +28 (604). Monmouth University +32 (608), and Rider University +34 (610) sit fourth and fifth respectively. Fairfield University climbed three spots up the leaderboard, shooting +7 (295) on the day and are +36 (612) heading into the final round. Saint Peter’s University is in seventh at +37 (613) with Canisius College +42 (618) in eighth. Niagara University is in ninth shooting a +55 (631) over the first two rounds.

On the men’s side, the day was highlighted by Fairfield’s Eric Austin who improved by 26 spots and is currently tied for 13th. Austin had a second round score of -4 (68), the lowest single round score in the MAAC Men’s Golf Championship since 2015, when Saint Peter’s teammates Brian Grubbs (first round) and Nick Dilio (second round) did so.

Albany added seven birdies to bring its total to 21, the most on the women’s side through two rounds. The Great Danes were led by Annie Songeun Lee who shot -1 (71) on the day to move into first place with a +2 (146).
Quinnipiac University has shot +49 (625) over two rounds followed by the University of Dayton at +61 (637) to round out the top three. Fourth place belongs to the University of Hartford at +64 (640). Siena is in fifth with a +68 (644), sixth is Monmouth at +81 (657) who moved up one spot after shooting +35 (323) on the day. Niagara +86 (662) follows in seventh place and La Salle +114 (690) are in eighth. Rounding out the women’s leaderboard is Fairfield with a total of +65 (713).

Maria Loza of Hartford is in second place after a +1 performance today. The freshman now sits at +6 (150) for the championship. In third place is Quinnipiac’s Luciana Tobia-Palza with a +8 (152), followed by Albany’s Megan Henry +9 (153) in fourth, and Siena’s Sara Riso +10 (154) in fifth.

The 2018 MAAC Men’s & Women’s Golf Championships continues tomorrow, Sunday, April 22 at 7:30 a.m. The women tee off on the front nine and men on the back nine.
