Four MAAC Men’s Basketball Student-Athletes Earn All-Met Postseason Honors
EDISON, NJ – The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association announced its 2017-18 Division I Men’s Basketball postseason honors on Monday. A total of four MAAC Men’s Basketball student-athletes were named to All-Met teams.
Fairfield University senior guard Tyler Nelson (First Team), Iona College junior guard Rickey McGill (Second Team), Rider University guard/forward Dimencio Vaughn (Second Team), and Manhattan College senior guard Rich Williams (Third Team) received All-Met postseason accolades.
Since the 2017-18 season has concluded, Nelson has been invited to play in national showcases such as the inaugural 3x3 National Championship, NABC Reese’s Senior All-Star Game, and Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. The guard was named to the All-MAAC First Team, NABC All-District Team, as well as the Portsmouth Invitational All-Tournament Team. Nelson finished the season as the league’s leading scorer, averaging 22.2 points per game. He scored 30 or more points five times, the most among all MAAC men’s basketball student-athletes this past season.
Vaughn, an All-MAAC First Team selection averaged 16.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game in 29 games, 22 starts for the Broncs. He ranked eighth in the league in scoring, sixth in rebounds per game, eighth in field goal percentage (50.8%), second in steals per game, and tied for second in offensive rebounds per game (2.6). Vaughn scored a career-high 34 points on 13-of-18 shooting from the field at Saint Peter’s on January 18. His 13 field goals made were tied for the most in a single-game this season.
McGill paced the Gaels’ en route to their third-straight MAAC Championship as he averaged 13.4 points and 5.6 assists per game. The guard ranked 10
th in the MAAC in scoring, second in assists per game, tied for sixth in steals per game (1.5), third in assist/turnover ratio (2.0), and fifth in minutes played per game (33.7). The All-MAAC Second Team selection scored a career-high 40 points against Rider on February 25, which was tied for the most points scored in a single-game in the league this past season.
Williams averaged a team-leading 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game as he was named to the All-MAAC Second Team in his senior campaign. The guard was ninth in the conference in scoring and seventh in three-point shooting percentage (42.6%). He also led Manhattan with 23 double-digit scoring performances and nine 20-point games with a pair of double-doubles. Williams joined Nelson in representing the MAAC at the inaugural 3x3 National Championship.

th NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner at the Westchester Marriott, Tarrytown, NY.
