Fairfield's Hankins, Monmouth's Riley, and Canisius' Hufford Collect MAAC Softball Weekly Honors
Player of the Week
Courtney Hankins, Fairfield
Jr., 3B/C, Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville
Courtney Hankins hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the seventh inning against Siena, a game which Fairfield would win the eighth inning, 3-2. Hankins had a hit in four of five games played last week and also had an RBI in all five contests. She started the week with a 4 for 4 performance against Hartford, one of three multi hit games for the infielder. She finished the week with a .600 batting average (9 of 15) and a .684 on-base percentage with six RBI, two doubles and a home run.
Pitcher Player of the Week
Amanda Riley, Monmouth
Sr., P/1B, Tracy, CA/John C. Kimball
Riley continued her dominance in the circle, going 3-0 this week with a 0.66 ERA. Riley pitched two conference complete-game shutouts against Iona and Quinnipiac. She struck out 30 batters in 21.1 innings pitched, and did not allow a double or home run in five appearances. Riley improved her MAAC record to 6-0 this season with a 0.47 ERA.
Rookie of the Week
Erin Hufford, Canisius
Fr., Cheektowaga, NY/Saint Mary’s
Erin Hufford notched six hits, three runs batted in, and three runs scored in a sweep of Saint Peter’s. Against the University of Buffalo, the freshman added on hit and scored one run. For the week the first-year Griff hit .500 and had an on-base percentage of .611 over five games.
