2018 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships Preview
WEST WINDSOR, NJ – The 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships are set to start on Saturday, April 28 at Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey. The competition will begin at 10 a.m. with the men’s semifinals followed by the women’s semifinals at 2 p.m.
The 2018 MAAC Men’s Tennis Regular Season Champions and #1 seeded Monmouth University (13-13, 7-0 MAAC) will face #4 seeded Fairfield University (8-11, 4-3 MAAC). Monmouth and Fairfield have met twice in postseason play with the Hawks taking both matchups 4-0.
Quinnipiac University (9-9, 6-1) enters the championship as the #2 seed and will face #3 seeded Marist College (7-5, 5-2). The Red Foxes and Bobcats have squared off during the MAAC Men’s Tennis Championship semifinals three times, with Marist leading the series two wins to one.
On the women’s side, #1 seeded Quinnipiac (13-7, 7-0) claimed their fifth straight MAAC Women’s Tennis Regular Season Title and will face #4 seeded Niagara University (9-17, 4-3). The Bobcats and Purple Eagles have met each other twice during the MAAC Women’s Tennis Championships, the last time coming during the 2016 semifinal where Quinnipiac defeated Niagara 4-0.
The other semifinal includes #2 seed Marist College (9-8, 6-1) and #3 seed Siena College (12-8, 5-2). Marist and Siena matchup will be a rematch of last year’s two-three semifinal where the Saints came away victorious 4-2. This will mark the third time the two teams have met during the MAAC Women’s Tennis Championships dating back to 2009.
