2018 MAAC Women's Tennis Major Award Winners Announced
WEST WINDSOR, NJ – The 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships are set to start on Saturday, April 28, at Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ.
The 2018 MAAC Women’s Tennis Unanimous Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year is Dominique Vasile from Quinnipiac University. Vasile finished the season with a 16-5 overall record and 6-0 mark in conference play. The freshman went 10-3 from the No. 1 singles position, 1-0 from singles two, and 1-1 from singles three. Vasile only dropped one set against conference foes this season to help lead the Bobcats to an undefeated mark in league play. The Michigan native was named MAAC Player of the Week on four separate occasions.
Paula Miller was named the 2018 MAAC Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year after leading Quinnipiac to yet another undefeated season in conference play. The Bobcats are seeking their fifth title in as many years. The Bobcats have not dropped a MAAC match in Miller’s tenure. This marks the fourth-time coach Miller has taken home Coach of the Year honors.
The 2018 All-MAAC second team is comprised of Marist’s Elizabeth Brozovich and Claire Schmitz at #3 doubles, Siena’s Ivana Boberic and Juliana Goehner at #2 doubles, and Siena’s Anessa Leyva and Ann Phillips at #1 Doubles. At #5 singles, Shannon Wong of Niagara, #4 singles Jessica Pil of Fairfield and Siena’s Rina Sakai. Marist’s Claire Schmitz is at #3 Singles followed by Niagara’s Andrea Peteu at #2 singles, and at #1 singles Julia Gabay of Marist.
On the 2018 Women’s Tennis All-MAAC First Team there are six unanimous selections all coming from Quinnipiac. First at #2 doubles Proyfon Lohaphaisan and Dominique Vasile, followed by Courtney Nash at #6 singles, Proyfon Lohaphaisan at #5 singles, Layla Rodriguez at #4 singles, Jennifer Lu at #2 singles, and Dominique Vasile at #1 singles. Joining them at #3 doubles is Julia Dunbar and Rina Sakai of Siena and Julia Gabay and Sam Galu of Marist at #1 doubles. Quinnipiac’s Payton Bradley rounds out the All-MAAC First team at #4 singles.
