Monmouth Claims Third MAAC Men’s Tennis Title in a Row

WEST WINDSOR, NJ - Monmouth University made it three-straight MAAC Men's Tennis Championships after topping Marist College in the final of the 2018 MAAC Men's Tennis Championship on Sunday at the Mercer County Tennis Center.

Monmouth (15-13), who was the top seed in the tournament, topped number three seed Marist (8-6) 4-0.

The Hawks got wins at number two and three doubles as they did in the semifinals on Saturday. Ale Gomez Estrada and Alberto Giuffrida won 6-2 over Rudolf Kurz and Gianlucca Massa. The doubles point was secured by Sergio Martinez and Srdjan Jakovljevic at number three with a 6-3 victory over Javier Restrepo and Christopher Gladden.

Jakovljevic got the second team point for the Hawks with a 6-1, 6-1 win at number two singles. Monmouth then picked up the third point at number six singles due to a Marist retirement.

Gomez Estrada secured the title with a 6-2, 6-3 win at number three singles over Massa. The senior was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the championships.

Up next for the Hawks is the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show will be on Tuesday, May 1 at 5:30 p.m. on NCAA.com. That is when the Hawks will find out who they will play next.
