HAMDEN, Conn. - Junior attack
Foster Cuomo was named to the National Team of the Week by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, it was announced today by the national office.
Cuomo, who was also named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, earned the award after tallying eight points(six goals, two assists) to lead the Bobcats to a 14-11 road win over Detroit Mercy on Saturday. The eight points set a new career high, surpassing his previous best of seven points (five goals, two assists) that he had in a win over NJIT back on March 3, when he earned his first Player of the Week honor. The win helped the Bobcats improve to 2-0 in the MAAC, while handing Detroit Mercy (2-1) its first conference loss.
Quinnipiac led 8-7 going into the fourth quarter, and outscored the Titans 6-4 in the final frame, with Cuomo having a hand in all six Quinnipiac goals, assisting on the first two and scoring the last four. Two of his four goals came while the Bobcats were killing penalties, including one with 4:10 remaining to put the Bobcats ahead by two. He followed that with another goal 38 seconds later to make the score 13-10 and effectively seal the victory.
Cuomo and the Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday when they host Manhattan for a 3 p.m. contest at Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium.
