Monmouth’s Smith, Iona’s McCaffrey, and Marist’s Renaud Pick Up MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Honors
Offensive Player of the Week
Alexa Smith, Monmouth
Sr., Midfield, Westhampton Beach, NY/ Westhampton Beach
Smith led the Hawks in scoring in Monmouth's wins over previously unbeaten—in conference play—Fairfield and Canisius. The senior had a season-high five goals in Monmouth's 14-11 win over the Stags, just the second time in the last decade that the Hawks beat the Stags. On Sunday she came back and recorded a hat trick as Monmouth snapped Canisius' 27-game regular season conference win streak. On the week, 12 of Smith's 17 shots landed on goal. She leads the team in goals with 32.
Defensive Player of the Week
Shannon McCaffrey, Iona
Jr., Goalkeeper, Hauppauge, NY/Hauppauge
In two wins in goal for the Maroon & Gold, junior Shannon McCaffrey made 21 saves and allowed a total of 12 goals against Quinnipiac and Siena. In Wednesday's win at Quinnipiac, the junior made 13 saves and shutout the Bobcats for the first 37 minutes of the game. In Iona's Saturday win over Siena, McCaffrey made eight saves and grabbed three ground balls. For the week, McCaffrey recorded a .636 save percentage on 49 shots faced.
Rookie of the Week
Camille Renaud, Marist
Fr., Midfield, Davis, CA/Davis
Renaud was all over the place this past week to help Marist go 2-0 in MAAC play. The freshman matched her career high of four goals against Manhattan and added two ground balls, and a draw control. Against Quinnipiac, she notched two goals and had a career high five caused turnovers. The first-year Red Fox has scored in five-of-six contests.
