Fairfield Faces No. 8 Seed Loyola in NCAA Women's Lacrosse First Round

BALTIMORE, MD – Fairfield University (13-6) faces No. 8 seed Loyola (15-4) in the First Round of the 2018 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship on Friday at 4 p.m. in Baltimore, Maryland.
 
BACK IN THE POSTSEASON
Fairfield returns to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015. The Stags fell to Princeton back in 2015, 18-8.
 
FOUR TITLES
The Stags won their fourth MAAC Championship by beating Canisius College 14-10 on Saturday, May 5 in Poughkeepsie, New York. Brenna Connolly, Kelly Horning, and Brooke Gallagher all had hat tricks. Seven different Stags had at least a point. The Stags became the first team in MAAC history to win three games in the championship—field expanded to six teams in 2016.
 
Fairfield won titles in 2015, 2009, and 2001 previously.
 
HI NICE TO MEET YOU
Friday will be the first time that Loyola and Fairfield will meet in women’s lacrosse.
 
HULSEMAN MVP
Junior Kathleen Hulseman was named the Most Valuable Player of the MAAC Championship. Hulseman tallied seven goals and six assists for 13 points.
 
MAAC IN THE NCAAs
The MAAC is 2-15 in the NCAA Tournament. The Stags have one of those wins, which came back in 2009 against Sacred Heart. Former member Le Moyne College had the other back in 2007 versus current member Monmouth University.
 
FAIRFIELD IN THE MAAC CHAMPIONSHIP
The Stags entered the MAAC Championship as the number three seed and hosted No. 6 Iona College in the first round. The Stags topped the Gaels 14-5. In the semifinals, Fairfield dispatched Monmouth 17-9 before beating Canisius in the Championship Game.
 
CONNECT FOUR
Fairfield was part of a four-way tie at 6-2 for the MAAC Regular Season Title. Canisius, Monmouth and Marist College were part of the tie as well. All four teams made the conference semifinals.
 
ALL-MAAC STAGS
Brenna Connolly was First Team All-MAAC Attack and Megan Beach was First Team on defense. Erin Mammale was named to the Second Team on defense and Kathleen Hulseman was Second Team in the midfield.
