No. 17 Wagner College (25-7) fell to No. 1 University of Southern California (24-1), 12-5, in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Water Polo Championship. The Seahawks season comes to an end after they advanced to the NCAA Water Polo Championship first round for the second year in a row.
 
Wagner Notes:
  • For the second year in a row, the Seahawks were defeated in the first round by the No. 1 team in the nation. In the 2017 NCAA Water Polo Championship, Wagner was defeated by No. 1 UCLA after it earned its first-ever national postseason victory over UC San Diego in the opening round.
  • 2018 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, senior utility Kimberly Watson scored Wagner’s first goal of the game on the powerplay. The goal was Watson’s 109th of the season. She finished her senior campaign with a MAAC-high 157 points.
  • Junior attack Erica Hardy tallied a team-high two goals and three steals.
  • Freshman utility Daisy Nankervis scored a goal and registered a game-high four steals. Sophomore attack Franciska Milo-Sidlo found the back of the net once for the Seahawks.
  • Wagner is now (2-11) all-time in NCAA Tournament games.
  • The loss marks the end of Wagner’s 17-game winning streak.
USC Notes:
  • The Trojans advance to take on either No. 4 UCLA or No. 6 Pacific on Saturday, May 12, at 6 p.m. (ET).
  • USC had six different players find the back of the net, five of which recorded two or more goals.
  • Kaylee Brownsberger scored a game-high three goals, while Maud Megens registered a game-high four points (two goals, two assists).
  • Amanda Longan and Victoria Chamorro surrendered five goals combine. Chamorro made 10 saves, while Longan stopped six shots.
