PENNSAUKEN TOWNSHIP, NJ – The 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Rowing Championship begins this Sunday, May 13 at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken Township, NJ. The field includes four full-time conference members, Canisius College, Fairfield University, Manhattan College, and Marist College, as well as five associate members, Drake University, Jacksonville University, Robert Morris University, Sacred Heart University, and Stetson University.
This year the MAAC Championship will take place at the same site and day as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and Ivy League Rowing Championships. For the first time in conference history, The MAAC will live stream the 2018 Women’s Rowing Championship on MAAC.TV, in partnership with the Ivy League and Harvard University.
Live coverage of the MAAC Championships begins at 9:20 a.m. with championship heats, followed by the finals races, starting at 12:30 p.m. The 2018 Championship Awards Ceremony will take place following the Varsity 8 Grand Final at approximately 2 p.m. , during which the All-MAAC First & Second Teams and Coach of the Year will be announced.

In 2017 Jacksonville claimed its fourth straight MAAC Women’s Rowing Championship, sweeping every event for a total of 60 points. The Dolphins took the Grand Final of the Varsity 4 edging Marist by one second (8:21.909). In the Grand Final of the Varsity 8, Jacksonville crossed the line in 7:21.190, five seconds ahead of Marist. In the Grand Final of the 2nd Varsity 8 Jacksonville again finished in front of the Red Foxes with a time of 7:28.418.
The Dolphins were projected to win the league in the 2018 MAAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, receiving six first place votes and 93 points overall. Marist was picked second with three first place votes and 88 points, followed by Canisius who received 72 points and one first place vote to round out the top three.
Marist has totaled 10 MAAC Women’s Rowing Championships in its history, the last coming in 2013 when the Red Foxes became the MAAC’s first automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championship. Jacksonville is tied with former conference member Loyola (MD) with four titles. Fairfield (2000) and Drake (2012) each have one MAAC Championship a piece.
