PRINCETON, NJ – The ECAC and IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships took place this weekend in Princeton, NJ. Canisius College, Iona College, Manhattan College, Marist College, Monmouth University, Quinnipiac University, Rider University, Saint Peter’s University, and Siena College had student-athletes compete in the two-day event.
 
In the ECAC Championship, Monmouth finished in eighth place with 29.75 points followed by Iona College in 12th place with 22 points. The Bobcats of Quinnipiac placed 25th out of 45 total institutions with 14 points. Marist placed 28th, Manhattan 35th and Canisius 39th with 13, eight, and six points respectively.
 
In the IC4A Championship, Monmouth and Manhattan tied for ninth place with 28 overall points. Iona posted 16 points to come in tied for 18th while Rider recorded eight points for 31st. The Red Foxes came in a four-way tie for 33rd with 6 points and Siena placed 43rd tallying one point.
 
Day 1 Notes:
  • Manhattan’s Love Litzell placed fourth in the hammer throw posting a mark of 63.92 meters.
  • Peter Flacco of Monmouth University recorded a javelin throw of 62.54 meters, good enough to place fifth in the event.
  • In the women’s hammer throw, Alicia Hester of Monmouth finished in fourth place with a toss of 58.21 meters. Teammate Kennisha Okereke finished four positions behind Hester with a 54.74 meter toss.
  • Rider’s Karoline Sandvig finished fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 54.95 meters.
  • Casey Sturts (Monmouth) finished seventh in the pole vault posting a height of 3.70 meters.
  • 2018 MAAC Women’s Field Rookie of the Meet, Danielle Steff of Monmouth took home bronze in the Women’s Javelin with a distance of 45.86 meters.
  • Monmouth’s Dylan Capwell ran a 1:50.68, just one tenth of a second behind the third-place finisher in the Men’s 800 meter, to take fourth place.
  • The 2018 MAAC Women’s Most Outstanding Track performer, Monmouth’s Ashley Wilson took gold in the 800 meter (2:05.10). Teammates Brianna Stratz and Chandi Piiru also finished in the top-10 crossing the line in 2:08.86 and 2:08.95 respectively.
  • The Gaels Liam Dee finished second in the 1500 (3:46.15) one second behind the first-place finisher. Monmouth’s Christopher Marco placed fourth (3:46.41) and Siena’s Evans Kibet, eighth (3:51.17).
  • Kaitlyn Ohrtman (Iona) finished ninth in the 1500 completing the race in 4:27.03.
  • Canisius’ Siobhan Quinn earned bronze in in the Women’s 3k with a mark of 9:56.09, in front of Iona’s Rachel Garn (9:56.40, fourth) and Marist’s Maria Smith (10:00.65, sixth) and Gianna Tedeschi (10:02.14, ninth).
  • Jessica Scheriff of Iona placed second in the steeplechase, finishing in 10:17.37.
  • Niamh O’Connor of Iona finished fourth in the 5k to take fourth place (16:34.22). Manhattan’s Lisa Fajardo placed sixth (16:50.15), and Marist’s Hayley Collins, ninth (17:02.53).
  • A pair of Red Foxes and Gaels finished in the top-10 in the men’s 10K. Mosel Dietritch (3rd) and Michael Kennedy (10th) with times of 30:23.19 and 30:59.01 for the Foxes. Iona’s Christian Alberico and Andrew Tario finished seventh and eighth clocking in at 30:38.75 and 30:46.15.
 
Day 2 Notes:
  • Allison Taub, the 2018 MAAC Women’s Most Outstanding Field Performer, placed seventh in the Women’s Shot Put with a distance of 14.24 meters.
  • 2018 MAAC Men’s Most Outstanding Field Performer, Manhattan’s Brenton Foster took home another gold medal in the Men’s High Jump with a jump of 2.18 meters. Fellow Jasper, Ire Brozovicar also took gold in the discus with a 52.88 meter throw.
  • Manhattan’s Ed Winner took ninth in the pole vault (4.85 meters) and teammate Anu Awonusi placed sixth in the shot put with a mark of 15.91 meters.
  • Monmouth’s Darius Howe received gold in the Men’s Triple Jump with a distance of 15.34 meters. Rider’s Michael Horn recorded a 14.87 meter mark to finish in fourth.
  • Quinnipiac’s Carly Timpson tied for fourth place in the Women’s High Jump with a mark of 1.66 meters.
  • Quinnipiac’s Jessica Lee and Rider’s Sarah Gardner again took first and second in the 100-meter hurdles completing the event in 13.53 and 13.72 respectively.
  • Marist’s 4x800 Relay team of Shea Bohan, Kerry Gaye, Jenna Robinson, and Denise Grohn won gold with a time of 9:00.34, three tenths of a second ahead of the second-place team.
  • Jermaine Lascelles of Saint Peter’s ran the Men’s 400 in 49.97.
 
The 2018 Outdoor Track & Field season continues with the NCAA Championships. The Preliminary Selection Show is on May 17 at 1 p.m. followed by the Finals Selection Show on May 29 at 3 p.m. For more information visit, ncaa.com.
