MAAC Schools Continue to Achieve Academic Success in Recent APR Results
EDISON, NJ - Each year, the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR). This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.
All 11 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) institutions and three associate members (Dayton – Women’s Golf, Villanova –Water Polo, and Wagner – Water Polo) had at least one team that posted multi-year APR’s in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport. A total of 49 teams received top 10 percent recognition. Siena led the MAAC with nine teams, followed by Fairfield with seven teams. Canisius, Marist, and Quinnipiac each had five teams in the top 10 percent. Iona and Niagara had four teams. Monmouth posted three, while Manhattan had two teams. Rider and Saint Peter’s each had one team in the top 10 percent.
“There is no better measure of a Division I schools' commitment to their student-athletes and their welfare than the NCAA's APR success, particularly the commitment of MAAC schools is well recognized and shown by the number of teams the top 10 percent of their sport,” noted MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “Congratulations to all the student-athletes, coaches, and administrators whose hard work in the classroom and support has led to this recognition.”
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention, and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced May 23.
