In a game that started four hours late due to weather, the 10th-ranked and top seed in the Knoxville Regional Tennessee Lady Vols (46-12) scored in the first, second, and fourth innings to get past Monmouth (32-15) in the opening game for both in the Knoxville Regional.
 
Monmouth Notes
• The Hawks got runners at first and second with one away in the top of the fourth. The next two hitters then struck out to end the inning. Kayla Rosado and Amber Wozniak got aboard for the Hawks.
• Amanda Riley (21-6) surrendered only one run in bottom of the second after Tennessee loaded the bases with one away. Riley also stranded a pair in the third.
• Riley went three-plus innings, allowing six runs, walking nine and striking out three.
• The setback is just the second for Monmouth in its last 26 games.
• Monmouth will face Ohio U in an elimination game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday on ESPN3.
 
Tennessee Notes
• No. 10 Lady Volunteers struck first on a two-run homer from Meghan Gregg in the bottom of the first. The senior’s 17th of the season.
• Tennessee worked 14 walks from Monmouth pitching, which compensated for Tennessee’s 1-for-8 night with runners in scoring position.
• Aubrey Leach, Chelsea Seggern, and Greg all had multi-RBI nights.
• Tennessee scored six times in the fourth to make it a 9-0 game.
• Maddy Moss (18-6) pitched all five innings for her sixth complete game.
• The Lady Vols advance to play James Madison in a winner’s bracket game on Saturday at 12 p.m. on ESPN3.
