Monmouth's Season Comes to a Close Following Loss to Ohio in NCAA Softball Championship

Monmouth's (32-16) first NCAA Softball Championship appearance came to an end with a loss to Ohio (39-16) in the Knoxville Regional. The Hawks stranded runners in six of the seven innings and the Bobcats scored early to keep their season going for another game. The 2018 season saw the Hawks claim both the MAAC Regular Season and Championship Titles.

Monmouth Notes
• Monmouth had runners at second and third in the first and second but stranded all four.
• In the game, the Hawks left 12 on; including the bases loaded in the fourth.
• Amanda Riley (21-7) allowed four earned runs and struck out three in her 20th complete game of the season.
• Riley finished her career with 55 wins-third all-time at Monmouth, 688.2 innings-Monmouth's career leader, and 666 strikeouts-Monmouth's career leader.
• Chloe Howerth went 3-for-4 and finished her career with 199 hits.
• Katie Baron had a double-13th of the season-and went 1-for-4. Baron finished her career 10th all-time at Monmouth in doubles with 29.

Ohio Notes
• The Bobcats struck first on a two-out, two-run home run from Katie Yun in the bottom of the first. It was Yun's ninth of the year.
• Danielle Stiene got all six outs via the strikeout over the first two frames and had eight through three.
• Stiene (28-7), who led the Mid-American in punchouts during the regular season, finished with nine over four innings of work.
• Four different Bobcats scored the four runs. Ohio tacked on runs in the second and fourth innings after the two-run homer in the first.
• Ohio advances on to play James Madison in another elimination game at 5:30 p.m.
