2018 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship Set to Begin Thursday

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The 2018 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship is set to begin with semifinals action on Thursday, May 3. Monmouth University will serve as the championship host from the brand-new
Kessler Stadium. All three games of the championship are set to air on the ESPN family of networks.
No. 1 seed Quinnipiac (9-5, 6-0 MAAC) faces No. 4 seed Canisius College (6-8, 3-3 MAAC) in the first semifinal matchup of the championship at noon on ESPN+. The second semifinal features No. 2 Seed Detroit Mercy (8-6, 5-1 MAAC) and No. 3 Monmouth (7-7, 4-2 MAAC) at 3 p.m. on ESPN+.

Regular Season Champions:
Quinnipiac secured the 2018 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Regular Season title and a perfect record (6-0) in conference play with a win over Marist on April 26. The Bobcats will be the No. 1 overall seed in the MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship for the second time in the last three seasons. It is also the second time over the course of the last three years that Quinnipiac has ran the table in conference play.
Trip Down Memory Lane:
The Bobcats defeated the Griffs, 19-14, in their lone regular season meeting on April 14. The 19 tallies were tied for the conference-high for goals in a single-game this season. The Titans edged the Hawks, 9-8, in overtime in their lone meeting of the regular season on March 24. Freshman midfield Brennan Kamish scored the game-winning goal in the extra frame.
Semifinals Broadcast Information:
Both semifinal games are set to air on ESPN+. Eddy Occhipinti (Play-by-Play) and Tim McGeeney (Color) will have the call of the semifinals.
Championship Final:
The 2018 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship game takes place on Sunday, May 5, at 10 a.m., and will air on
ESPNU.
Back-to-Back Champs?:
Monmouth claimed the 2017 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship with a 9-8 victory over Marist. The last and only team to win two consecutive MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championships was former member Providence (2006, 2007).
Championship History:
Each of the four teams in the Men’s Lacrosse Championship have won at least one title. Canisius leads the field of participants with two MAAC Championships. Detroit Mercy, Monmouth, and Quinnipiac have each claimed one.
Familiar Territory:
Since 2014 each of the four teams competing in the upcoming championship have participated in at least two championships.
Success on Top:
Since 2014 the top seed in the MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship has won every championship. The last non-No. 1 seed to claim the championship was No. 4 seed Detroit Mercy in 2013.
On Top of the Nation:
Canisius’ Connor Kearnan ranks eighth in the nation in points per game (5.07) and sixth in the nation in assists per game (3.14). Monmouth’s Noah Lode is eighth in the nation in save percentage (.571) and 15
th in goals-against average (8.71). Detroit Mercy’s Logan Shamblin ranks 10
th in save percentage (.548), while teammate Charlie Hayes is fifth in caused turnovers per game (2.29).
