MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Student-Athletes Compete at NCAA East Prelims

TAMPA, FL – The 2018 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field East Prelims took place this week. A total of 21 student-athletes from the MAAC competed in the prelims with a total of four qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
 
Moving on are Iona’s Chartt Miller, Manhattan’s Ire Brozovicar, and Monmouth University teammates Dylan Capwell and Allie Wilson.
 
Men’s Notes
•    Miller came in fourth place in the 5000 meter run on Sunday evening, the graduate student completed the race in 13:55.87.
•    Monmouth’s Capwell finished in ninth place in the 800 meter crossing the line in 1:47.98. Capwell finished just one second off the pace.
•    Ire Brozovicar threw the discus 53.81 meters to place 12th and secure the final qualifying spot out of the east for the event.
•    Iona’s Liam Dee, Ehab El-Sandali, and Gilbert Kirui also competed in long distance events. Dee ran the 1500 and posted a time of 3:48.62, El-Sandali the 5000 finishing with a time of 14:34.59, and Kirui participated in the 10k, crossing the line in 29:59.97.
•    Along with Brozovicar, the Jaspers had four other student-athletes participate in the prelims. 2018 Field Rookie of the Meet, Eduard Winner finished tied for 27th in the pole vault with a mark of 5.00 meters. Ryan Addlesburger competed in the shot put and recorded a distance of 17.21.
•    2018 Most Outstanding Field Performer, Manhattan’s Brenton Foster posted a mark of 2.06 in the high jump, 0.05 meters away from qualifying for the championship. Teammate Love Litzell tossed the hammer 60.99 meters to place 30th.
•    Darius Howe and Tim Wilson of Monmouth competed in the triple jump and hammer throw respectively. Howe recorded a distance of 14.60 meters and Wilson 61.32 in their event.
•    Evans Kibet of Siena College was the first Saint to ever participate in the NCAA East Prelims. Kibet finished with a time of 1:50.83 in the 800 meter.
 
Women’s Notes
•   2018 MAAC Most Outstanding Track Performer, Allie Wilson qualified for the 800 meter finals with a time of 2:04.58. 
•    The Gaels had a pair of teammates run in the 3000 steeplechase. Jessica Scheriff and Dani Martino completed the race in 10:21.07 and 10:46. 68 respectively.
•    2018 MAAC Rookie of the Meet for Field Events, Monmouth's Danielle Steff finished 21st in the javelin, throwing it 46.06 meters. Teammate Alicia Hester posted a distance of 56.22 meters in the hammer throw to place 34th.
•    Quinnipiac’s Jessica Lee and Rider’s Sara Gardner both competed in the 100 meter hurdles. Lee qualified for the semifinal race, crossing the line fifth in her heat with a 13.34 mark. Gardner was one-tenth of a second behind Lee with a time of 13.43.
•    In the 100 meter hurdle final, Jessica Lee ran 13.74 and finished 21st out of 24 runners.
•    Carly Timpson of Quinnipiac cleared the bar at 1.65 meters to tie for 43rd in the high jump.
