MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Semifinal

The No. 3 Fairfield University (12-6) scored seven unanswered goals over a span of 15 minutes in the first half to move past Monmouth University (8-10), 17-9, and into Saturday’s Championship Game. It will be the ninth appearance for the Stags in the championship game, which ties Canisius for the most in league history.  

Fairfield Notes
• The Stags have now reached three of the last four title games.
• Taylor Mitchell had a first-half hat trick and finished with four goals. The junior has 41 goals now in 2018.
• Kathleen Hulseman also tallied a hat track plus one. The junior is up to 35 goals this season.
• Brooke Gallagher and Kelly Horning tallied hat tricks for the Stags
• Fairfield had seven different goal scorers and nine different players record a point.
• Paulina DiFatta made 14 saves and stopped 60-percent of the shots she faced.
 
Monmouth Notes
• Finished the season at 8-10 overall
• Chloe Novak led the Hawks with four goals to finish the year with 17 tallies.
• Jenny Staines found the back of the net twice. The junior finished the season with 34 goals.
• Riley Brager made seven stops.
• Monmouth finish 3-for-5 on free-position shots.

MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Semifinal

Canisius College (11-6) held Marist College (10-7) scoreless over the last 6:24 to win 13-11 to advance to the MAAC Championship Game on Saturday. Canisius will play No. 3 Fairfield at 1 p.m. The Golden Griffins took their first lead at 10:24 of the second half on a goal by Bryar Cummings. Neither team led by more than three throughout the game.
 
Canisius Notes
• The Golden Griffins advance to their ninth MAAC Championship Game, which ties Fairfield for the most in conference history.
• Canisius seeks a third straight title and seventh in the last eight years.  
• Canisius is the first four seed to top a number one seed since 2003 when Marist beat Fairfield.
• Allie Stewart had a hat trick and finished with four markers. Her fourth of the season and second of the MAAC Championship.
• Sophomore Bryar Cummings scored four goals to record her first career hat trick in the process and added an assist for a five-point night.
• Lauren Smolensky handed out a season-high three assists.
• Rebecca VanLaeken stooped six shots in goal.
 
Marist Notes
Hailey Wagner scored three times for her third hat trick of the season and first against a MAAC foe.
• Morgan Jaycox, Camille Renaud and Devon Connolly had two goals apiece.
• Kelly George dished out a game-high and tied a career-high with five assists.
• Marist’s season ends at 10-7.
• Delaney Galvin made 10 saves.
