EDISON, NJ – To kick off the month of May, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (MAAC SAAC) initiated a social media campaign to raise awareness and help break the stigma associated with mental health.

The campaign, #A11MAACMinds, represents the 11 institutions in the conference banding together to make mental health awareness a priority on each campus. Each institutional SAAC encouraged its respective student-athletes, coaches, and administrators to post on social media about the importance of mental health using the hashtag, #A11MAACMinds, along with the color lime green.

Lime green is the official color of mental health, and May is the official month for mental health awareness.

“Student-athletes across the nation are making mental health their top priority, and it was time that the MAAC student-athletes help continue that conversation," said MAAC SAAC Chair and NCAA DI SAAC Representative, Madison Arndt. "#A11MAACMinds is something that I am blessed to have been a part of creating, and have seen firsthand the success in the social media campaign in just a couple of weeks! I think this campaign going into future years will help campuses in the MAAC seriously take a look at mental health best practices, and consider making student-athlete mental health a top priority.”

The initiative was established by MAAC SAAC, and further research and planning was conducted by a sub-committee consisting of Arndt and Kat Prevo of Manhattan College, Courtney Miller of Iona College, Erin Clark of Niagara University, and Douglas Nover of Saint Peter’s University.
