Trio of MAAC Baseball Student-Athletes Earn Collegiate Baseball All-American Honors
EDISON, NJ – Three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) student-athletes earned Collegiate Baseball All-American Honors. Niagara University junior shortstop Greg Cullen was tabbed to the NCAA Division I All-American Second Team, while Canisius College duo of senior pitcher J.P. Stevenson and red-shirt senior infielder Liam Wilson received Third Team honors.
Cullen became the fourth student-athlete from Niagara to claim the MAAC Player of the Year honor this past season and the first since Josh McCurdy in 2003. Cullen was named to the All-MAAC First Team and finished the regular season as the nation’s leading hitter, posting a .458 batting average. He also ranks second in the NCAA in on-base percentage (.556) and sixth in hits per game (1.65). Cullen leads the MAAC in batting average, on-base percentage, and hits (81). The junior was recently named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Award.
Stevenson became the third Griff to earn the MAAC Pitcher of the Year honor in 2018 and the first since Rohn Pierce claimed the award in 2014. Stevenson was tabbed to the All-MAAC First Team, All-Championship Team, and claimed the MAAC Baseball Championship MVP. The lefty led the MAAC in wins (10), strikeouts (92), and ERA (2.54). He currently ranks tied for sixth in the nation in wins. Stevenson was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week on two occasions this season.
Wilson earned All-MAAC First Team honors at first base. He hit .360 (77-214), with nine home runs, 48 RBI, and 52 runs scored this season. Wilson broke the MAAC single-season record for doubles (26) on May 24, in a win over Quinnipiac University. He ranked second in the MAAC in hitting, second in slugging percentage (.640), seventh in on-base percentage (.440), first in doubles (27), first in runs scored, tied for third in hits, and seventh in RBI. Wilson’s 27 doubles are the third-most in the nation.
