2018 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Start Saturday

 LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The 2018 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships will begin on Saturday, May 5 at Rider University for the third consecutive year. Monmouth University men’s and women’s programs are both seeking their fifth-straight MAAC Outdoor Championship.

The Monmouth men were selected as preseason favorites during the 2018 MAAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Hawks tallied 225 points at last year’s championship, 30.5 points ahead of second place Rider University. During its four-year run, Monmouth student-athletes have tallied six major awards, including last year’s MAAC Men’s Track Rookie of the Meet, Peter Guerriero and Most Outstanding Field Performer, Corey Murphy.

The Broncs last took home the MAAC Men’s Outdoor Championship in 2013 and have a total of two in program history. Manhattan College has the most MAAC Men’s Outdoor titles with 14 including a run of 13 in a row from 1998 to 2010.

On the women’s side, Monmouth outscored the field by 127.5 points during the 2017 MAAC Outdoor Championship and were selected as preseason favorites to take home their fifth-straight MAAC Championship. The Hawks have had two student-athletes named women’s most outstanding field performers, and one most outstanding track performer.

Manhattan who currently has a league-best 11 MAAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships finished third at last year’s championship. Rider placed second and have three titles in program history.
