EDISON, NJ - The No. 3 seed Fairfield University Stags (12-6) will face a familiar foe in the No. 4 Canisius College Golden Griffins (11-8) in the 2018 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship Game on Saturday afternoon. The title game will start at 1 p.m. and air live on MAAC.TV.

WE MEET AGAIN
For the second straight season, the women's lacrosse champion will be either Canisius or Fairfield. The two sides met in Buffalo a season ago when Canisius prevailed 13-10.

The two sides also met in the 2011 and 2012 championship game. Canisius is 3-0 in those meetings.

FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
Saturday will be the first time that the number three and four seeds will compete in the championship game.

NINE LIVES...I MEAN TRIES
Saturday will be Canisius's and Fairfield's ninth appearance in the championship game. That is a conference record. The Golden Griffins have won six titles, and the Stags have three.

FOUR OVER ONE
Canisius became just the third number four seed to knock off the number one seed in MAAC history. In 2003, No. 4 Marist topped No. 1 Fairfield 11-9 and in 2000 when No. 4 Niagara beat No. 1 Marist 13-8.

STAGS STOP MONMOUTH
No. 3 Fairfield scored seven straight goals over a 15-minute span in the first half to create separation with No. 2 Monmouth and win 17-9. The Stags got hat tricks from Kathleen Hulseman, Taylor Mitchell, Brooke Gallagher, and Kelly Horning. Hulseman and Mitchell scored four times.

GOLDEN GRIFFINS GET PAST MARIST
Canisius trailed 6-3 at the half, then score 10 goals in the second to get past Marist, 13-11. The Golden Griffins four of the final six goals and held Marist scoreless over the last 6:24. Bryar Cummings provided the game-winner with 5:20 remaining.

GOT TO WIN THREE STRAIGHT
For the first time since the women's lacrosse championship field expanded to six teams, two teams that played in the first round will play for the title.

THREE SEED IN THE FINALS
The third seed is 3-4 all-time in the championship game. Manhattan won the 2004 crown as a number three seed. Marist won in 2010, and Canisius won in 2014.

2016 - Monmouth lost to No. 1 Canisius,
2014 - Canisius beat No. 1 Marist, 11-9
2013 - Marist lost to No. 1 Canisius, 10-9
2010 - Marist beat No. 1 Fairfield, 9-7
2009 - Marist lost to No. 1 Fairfield, 19-9
2007 - Marist fell to No. 1 Le Moyne, 14-13 (OT)
2004 - Manhattan beat No. 1 Le Moyne, 15-6

FOUR SEED IN THE FINALS
Neither of the two previous four seeds to make the championship game have won.

2003 -- Marist lost to No. 2 seed Le Moyne, 9-7
2001 -- Niagara lost to No. 2 Manhattan, 11-8
