No. 17 Wagner College (25-6) knocked off No. 12 UC San Diego (24-12), 10-7, in overtime to advance to the 2018 NCAA Water Polo Championship quarterfinals. The Seahawks will take on No. 1 USC on Friday, May 11, at 3 p.m. (ET) in the quarterfinals.
 
Wagner Notes:
  • The Seahawks are the first MAAC Water Polo team to win back-to-back NCAA Tournament opening round contests.
  • For the second year in a row, Wagner has defeated UC Sand Diego in the opening round of the NCAA Water Polo Championship. The three-goal margin of victory marks the largest by a MAAC team in the NCAA Tournament since 2012 (Iona defeated Pomona-Pitzer, 12-8).
  • The Seahawks improve to (2-10) all-time in NCAA Tournament games. The two NCAA wins are tied with Iona and Marist for the most by a MAAC school in history.
  • Wagner extended its winning streak to 17 games in a row.
  • Three student-athletes recorded multi-goal games for the Seahawks. Elise Begg totaled three points (two goals, one assist), two steals, and a drawn exclusion in the win. Kristy Donkin added three points (two goals, one assist), a steal, and a drawn exclusion.
  • 2018 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, Kimberly Watson registered two goals and a game-high six steals.
  • All-MAAC First Team Selection, Erica Hardy recorded two points (1 goal, 1 assist) and four steals.
  • Daisy Nankervis put Wagner out in front just 21 seconds into the overtime period. The Seahawks outscored the Tritons, 3-0, in overtime en route to the win.
